It’s not uncommon to hear that performing arts high schools aren’t important in the grand scheme of things. So many industries are relying on technology or pushing students to pursue STEM careers that the arts aren’t getting the recognition they deserve. And they do deserve recognition! In fact, the performing arts are some of the most important things in the world, especially for young students.
The first thing you need to remember is that art is a form of self-expression. Denying children the chance to express themselves and instead pressuring them to pursue math or science heavily isn’t doing them any favors. Self-expression helps relieve stress, improves your mood, and so much more. Art is as beautiful to create as it is to look at and listen to. It’s not something we often think about, but we wouldn’t have any of our favorite movies, books, or plays without the artists who helped create them.
So whether your child wants to pursue singing or decides to audition for the next school play, don’t discourage them! The performing arts are incredibly important.
